- Sept 2007
- Aug 2007
Germany - a memorable 2 day trip. Wish I had taken more pictures.
- July 2007
India Part 2 - Back again, for another 4 week stay.
- July 2007 XKCD - Geek humor at its finest.
- July 2007 Risk - Okay, so one night we actually tried to finish a game of risk. And when battles started using 50 troops, I broke out my laptop and made a little script to do the die-rolling for us.
- June 2007 Hallett's Peak - Summited, June 2007.
- May 2007 Housing Calculator - My explanation of why I always stick with apartments.
- Aprl 2007 Mountain Hikes - Spring of 2007.
- Oct 2006
India - 5 week excursion into the East.
- Life without Thread.Sleep - How to master browser threads.
- VS2008 Features - I got this from Daniel Moth's blog.
- Agile Opus - This is an on-going paper I'm writing, about the nature of software development, particularly as it relates to change.
- Window's Haiku - In Japan, impersonal Microsoft error messages have been replaced with Haiku poetry messages. Haiku Poetry has strict construction rules: Each poem has only 17 Syllables - 5 syllables in the first line, 7 in the second, 5 in the third. They often achieve a wistful, yearning, and powerful insight through extreme brevity.
- Microsoft's Silverlight - Another earthshaker! What I always wanted Flash to be.
- Amazon's S3 - Holy cow! This thing rocks! I seriously have to do write up of Amazon's new
storage service. But I've been too busy finding interesting
ways to use it. Its an earthshaker. This link is my private admin page. Sorry, its password protected so you can't see it an action.
But other developers are of course welcome to "View Source" and see how its working. There is no server-side component (no aspx files).
All HTML and JScript.
- Microsoft's HTML Reference - Since MS's site has become ridicously slow lately, I had to pull down their most valuable reference document and make it static html (versus crap aspx pages).
- Blazing Hard-drives - An adventure in RAID Striping with Seagate's Cheetah and ATTO's UL5D.
- Feb 2008 Memento - Truth made clear in film noir.
- Oct 2007 Love's Long Absence - My explanation of socialism, an individual's freedom of choice, and the true nature of love.
- May 2007 A Soulful Giving - It took me 7 years to realize where Ayn Rand's philosophy had been short of the complete truth.
- Dec 2006 SIMILARITIES and DISTINCTIONS - For a very long time now, I've been exploring the nature of human knowledge and learning, in
the hopes that the process could one day be made computational. This document is only one of many, but is probably the clearest one I've ever written on the subject.
- Oct 2006 Honor - Yahoo had an article on the 50th anniversary
of Peyton's Place. The jounalists, and subsequent Yahoo posters, agreed (in perfect unison) how unjust
it was that the citizens of Gilmanton, after all this time, still had not changed their bitter hearts and
praised the young author Grace Metalious for, what everyone agreed, was such a ground-breaking book.
When the words "honor her" were posted, I felt they had irrevocably stepped across the line of
common-sense, and I couldn't resist posting a reply to them. While internet flame wars are
rarely worth archiving, I'm slightly disappointed that Yahoo doesn't have a record of it, only
because after my post there were some pretty heated and interesting comments from everyone involved.
- July 2006 Ageism - There was a young programmer who blogged about ageism, how all the old-timers wouldn't let him
have the good projects, just because he was young. Ah, how sad! His whining was really quite touching. I had to post a reply, which
he promptly deleted after reading it.
